Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. When her father left the family members, she was grew up by her mother, godparents, and grandmother. As a young girl, she was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered from anxiety because of the word association. Ford's love for acting grew when she was young. She joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she didn't fit in. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot on her third attempt, applied and won an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford did not finish her studies in 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her debut on television on the show Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning in the Nineties. Alongside her usual theatre work, Tate joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. But Tate soon began to garner notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her repertoire in 1996.
